I will get this updated a bit every so often this fall, but here is a starter for you! OCTOBER 2015 READINGS IN PARIS

6 oct at 19h30: Ivy Writers Paris bilingual reading with Patrick Beurard-Valdoye, Ron Horning et Matt Reeck For more see our blog: http://ivywritersparis.blogspot.fr/EVENT on FB : confirmez votre présence ! https://www.facebook.com/events/175709772766875/ Notre groupe FB—devenez MEMBRE du groupe ! https://www.facebook.com/groups/101898279922603/ Notre « community » page sur FB—rejoignez-nous ! https://www.facebook.com/ivywritersparis?fref=ts BIOS IN ENGLISH: Patrick Beurard-Valdoye is a poet and translator who divides his time between Paris, Belfort and Lyon (where he teaches at the Lyon School of Fine Arts) in France. He has published over 20 books and has long been deeply involved in the exploration of crossovers between literary and visual arts practices, as well as practices related to the writing/creation of History and of art history. His recent books have focused on borders, movement, exile, refugee status and the interstices of human crossovers and landscapes in varying time periods. When in Berlin in 1982, Beurard-Valdoye began a collection called his Cycle of exils (Cycle des exils), and he will be sharing an extract from this work with Ivy Writers Paris tonight. This current project is built on his preceding explorations into archives, witness, exile, places of exile and oral accounts of stories linked to these themes, as can be noted in his collections Diaire, Mossa, La fugue inachevée, Le narré des îles Schwitters (publiés aux éditions Al Dante), or Gadjo-Migrandt (Poésie/Flammarion). He also completed a work on the Bauhaus, Black Mountain College, and the Vienna and New York Schools—a kind of poetic critical biographical text which he has performed in Paris and elsewhere, and which acts in ways as a collage of readings, anecdotes and images emerging and traversing a mindscape. This bio of course only touches on the massive body of work already published by Patrick Beurard-Valdoye, including recent volumes of books such as: Itinerrance, site cité citain (Obsidiane, 2004) ; Théorie des noms (Textuel, coll. « l'œil du poète », 2006) ; Le messager d'Aphrodite (Obsidiane, 2009). His work as a translator includes publications in Action Poétique of Kurt Schwitters (co-translated by Isabelle Ewig) and Hilda Morley (co-translated with Séverine Daucourt-Fridriksson). For more on Patrick Beurard-Valdoye, you can read his articles in French on remue.net : http://remue.net/spip.php?mot258 or consult his Wiképédia page https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Beurard-Valdoye or get a sneak peek of his reading style by watching the video from his reading « Black Mountain College » for Double Change at la maison de la poésie in May of 2014 :  https://vimeo.com/96625031 Ron Horning lives and works in Beacon, New York, and revisits and rewrites old homes Greece and Brazil as often as he can. He and his wife, the painter Anna West, are on their way to Greece now. Last year Color Treasury published a group of three poems entitled From Philip Drunk to Philip Sober.  Read two of Ron’s poems on Best American Poetry and BAPoetry again Matt Reeck is a poet, translator (from Korean, Urdu, French and other languages), and a publisher. He is completing his PhD in Comp Lit at UCLA. 7th October 3pm Children’s Hour with Kate Stables AT: Shakespeare and Co, Paris

7th October Open Secret poetry party! :)  Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 1st public reading of Allen Ginsberg’s Howl, which took shape at the Six Gallery in San Francisco on October 7, 1955.  Many readings from the book! David Leo Vesuvio Angel-Headed Hipster Sirois here, asking you to unveil Open Secret, that wildly welcoming weekly Wednesday open mic, Whether up or down, look around for “Woody Allen in rhymes,” as TimeOut Paris called me (Still don’t know if that’s a compliment or an insult!), but I’ll be sporting a silly pirate hat, & can sign you up to recite or sing or act or whatever-the-heck-else you wish!  Sign-up blasts off at 8:30, & the spectacle starts at 9... This week’s open mic topic is simply “Howl.”  I am haranguing several “regulars” to read pieces from the book.  You can add to that, or choose to “Howl” in your own special way.  As Walter Whitman, perhaps Ginsberg’s greatest literary influence, wrote – “I sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world.”  Let’s let ourselves howl! :) AT: Le Bistro des Artistes, 6 rue des Anglais in the 5th circle of heaven.  Follow the candles down the steps to the “cave.” Rue des Anglais is a cutesy passageway who stretches out her thin tanned arms between Boulevard Saint Germain & rue Lagrange, & the closest metro is Maubert-Mutualité (line 10), which is a 2 minute walk according to the all-knowing oracle named Google Maps, or you could go to metro Saint-Michel (line 4), a 6 minute walk away, the oracle sayeth.

Sue Rynhart Duo Sue Rynhart (vocals), Dan Bodwell (doublebass) Young composer and singer Sue Rynhart has performed at jazz festivals all over Ireland. Her collaborations with well-known Irish and international artists range from premiering works by George Higgs, Simon McHale, Donal Mac Erlaine or the Irish Composers Collective to singing with Rick Peckham, Tom Arthurs and Florian Ross.Sue's critically acclaimed debut album Crossings was nominated Best Jazz Album in the Irish Times Ticket Awards 2014. 18 November 19h30 (WEDS NIGHT!) Korean-American Author Myung Mi Kim reads for Ivy Writers Paris. She will read in English and new translations (first translations!) of her work will be presented in French. BIO: MYUNG MI KIM: b. 1957. Author of 7 books of poetry, professor at Univ of Buffalo, NY, Myung Mi Kim is known for her strong explorations of history, personal and political narratives in fragmented space which open the page and the English language to the othernesses in all of us. As CJ Martin states, she "explores the problem of legibility: legibility of the book, of the subject, of the work of art. Kim’s work seeks “a relationship with readers that owns to and remains critical of the political and systematic nature of that encounter,” from books that construct their own grammar to lyric speech that explores the problem of silence to work that foregrounds practice as performance." (Jacket 2 sidebar intro) A large feature on her work, including criticism and a series of interviews, appeared on Jacket 2: here is a link to one of those works: http://jacket2.org/feature/myung-mi-kim Myung Mi Kim is the subject of the book The Subject of Building Is a Process / Light Is an Element: essays and excursions for Myung Mi Kim (2008). She has taught at San Francisco State University and in the Poetics Program at SUNY Buffalo.   Myung Mi Kim was born in Seoul, Korea. She immigrated with her family to the United States at the age of nine and was raised in the Midwest. She earned a BA from Oberlin College, an MA from The Johns Hopkins University, and an MFA from the University of Iowa. Her collection of poems Under Flag (1991) won the Multicultural Publishers Exchange Award of Merit; subsequent collections include The Bounty (1996), DURA (1999), Commons (2002), River Antes (2006), and Penury (2009). OUT NOW : for those interested in CRIME WRITING and in FRENCH : check out this issue : Parution du nouveau numéro d’Itinéraires.
